When you must move across open ground with very little cover and you can’t stand up due to enemy fire or observation, the goal is to present the smallest possible target while still advancing. The low crawl accomplishes this by keeping most of your body, especially your torso, close to the ground as you move. The other options don’t fit the situation as well. A high crawl raises your torso above the ground, increasing your silhouette and making you more detectable. The back crawl is slow and awkward for forward movement in a threat-area. An individual rush prioritizes speed over concealment, which would significantly increase your exposure in an open area.
